An Evening with Stella Creasy MP – Thursday 19 July 2018, 7pm
Baroness Helena Kennedy QC invites you to join her and colleagues for a very special event held at Doughty Street Chambers in support of the work of Stella Creasy MP. Co-hosting with Helena will be Comedienne and Evening Standard Columnist Ayesha Hazarika. The event will provide an opportunity to find out more about Stella’s work on a range of issues and how you can be part of this by joining her fundraising drive to support and cover the cost of an extra member of her team to advance these very important projects. We also hope you will be able to stay on for a drink, and to socialise with those who have a shared interest.
Stella was elected in 2010 as MP for Walthamstow and has been highly effective in championing women’s rights, promoting social mobility and looking at effective ways to alleviate poverty. Stella is a determined and passionate activist and campaigner who is relentlessly committed to her constituency. She works with MPs across the political parties, with academics, lawyers, campaigners and communities, to enable the most effective outcomes. We were particularly delighted that she agreed to join a panel on our International Women’s Day Festival in March of this year, and she proved to be one of the most popular speakers of the day.
In the coming months Stella intends to lead the fight to decriminalise abortion in Northern Ireland, put misogyny on a par with racial and religious hatred in sentencing, tackle the damage Brexit is doing and end the gender pay gap. Several members of Doughty Street are instructed in current cases considering the issue of abortion rights, and we always stand in support of those championing the rights of women, so we are proud to make our space available for what promises to be an interesting evening.
To continue with her work on crucial campaigns Stella needs your support. Through small donations from new supporters, Stella will be able to recruit a vital extra member of staff to work on steering these campaigns to successful outcomes. Helena and Ayesha hope very much that you will be able to join us to hear from Stella herself about her work, and to enjoy a drink and a convivial evening with others who share an interest in these important areas of social justice.
